I was recently asked to explain "Nikki's New York".
Nikki is a nickname I landed during one of my most challenging jobs: as road staff and photographer during the 1998 race for president in Venezuela. During that campaign we received many, many very credible death threats and the road staff was a very small team with overlapping responsibilities. To aid in protecting the candidate and team our security detail asked if any of us owned a gun. I had a Glock, and a lot of practice. They told me to bring it the next day. To prove I had the expertise required, they asked me on the spot to take it apart and put it back together, which I proceeded to do. From then on, one of my vest pockets carried the Glock. So the team dubbed the photographer-turned-undercover-security: "la Femme Nikita" - which was the story of a beautiful femme fatale rescued and trained by a government agency as a dangerous weapon, who becomes a sleeper agent named Marie.
My favorite alter-ego by far.
